I thought i would post this as on my Asus A7n8x i was having trouble installing vista to test the modded bioses and Yen pointed out that vista had a problem with more than 3gb memory well i did some digging and it turns out both vista x86 and x64 have a problem with more than 3gb memory 1. on installing and a problem once vista is installed with 4gb or more, so below is what i found:
1. https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777/en-us Error message when you try to install Windows Vista on a computer that uses 3 GB of RAM or more: "STOP 0x0000000A" (or just freezes on splash screen)
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
• The computer has Three gigabytes (GB) or more of RAM.
• The computer uses a storage system that is running the Storport miniport driver.
• The computer uses a controller that uses 32-bit direct memory access (DMA).
2. https://support.microsoft.com/kb/930261/en-us You randomly receive a "Stop 0000000xA" error in Storport.sys when you start Windows Vista.
You experience this problem if the following conditions are true:
• The computer has an NVIDIA chipset.
• The computer has four gigabytes (GB) or more of RAM.
workaround: install vista x86/x64 with only 2gb of memory, then apply update KB929777 (wga download) restart vista. shutdown Then proceed to reinstall extra memory.
hope this helps anyone else having trouble.
